Nestled in Chung King Court of LA’s Chinatown, Automata is an intimate performance space for experimental artists. On July 21 they hosted an evening of Electro-Acoustic music by Polish artist Jacaszek and Los Angeles composer Gregory Lenczycki.
Lenczycki premiered his piece, Mont Banc, based on P.B. Shelly’s 1817 poem, which compares the power of the mountain against the power of the human imagination. Having previously taken in Lenczycki’s work during the performance of Kathleen Johnson’s science fiction libretto Brainchild II at LA’s Human Resources in the fall of 2012, I was anticipating another journey through the sonic spectrum. Seated for the performance so as to control his sonic scape, Lenczycki was joined by soprano Juliette Dwyer, Jorge Martin on clarinet and electronics, and William Roper on Tuba.
